Hall Of Fame Humbug

Da Realist:

Nice article.

Of all the great players who passed through the NBA and never fulfilled their promise, Webber was the only one without a legitimate excuse.
Gangsta D:

Yep, he hit it on the head. People do forget that Jalen was Michigan's top scorer both years. I remember I saw Webber at a party a couple years ago. I was like, "He's not that big." If I was thinking that, what were NBA players thinking? Lol Now the discussion turns to whether he's a HOF'er. I think the Michigan flap keeps him out. It's the BASKETBALL HOF, not the NBA. According to the NCAA, he never played college ball. That will hurt him.

Waldini:

Damn that's true. The scandal alone makes the voting committee think twice about voting him in. His averages say he should be in but when you start looking at how many games he played, then that keeps him out. I mean Bernard King isn't in there either and you're telling me Webber should go in over him.

Da Realist:

That's some bull. The nba needs to find a way to distinguish their hall of fame from the "basketball hall of fame". What the hell is that? The only people that can be grandfathered in are the negro players that didn't get a chance to play in the NBA (but were obviously good enough).

Other than that, it should be the NBA hall of fame. Damn, that's cheesy. You got people being judged by playing on different levels (college vs pro) and different leagues (NBA vs ABA vs CBA vs Euroleagues) and different rules.

I don't think Webber should get in but it shouldn't be because of whatever the hell happened in COLLEGE!. I know some dudes that were good in high school. That's basketball, ain't it? Them dudes should be in there. Maybe y'all can welcome Kwame Brown in since he was da man in high school.

Gangsta D:

OK, here's the thing about Kwame. We have great football players down here, but not great basketball players. I'm pushing 6'4", but I would've played center in high school. That gives you an idea of the talent level down here, so no Kwame wasn't really a beast. I can dominate players six inches shorter than me:)

As far as the HOF goes, I agree. There should probably be different HOF's, but we know that's never gonna change. Read more!

What The Damn? - Kobe-Wan-Kenobi Edition

Last night the Lakers traveled to Sacramento to take on the dreaded “Queens.” Obviously, this “rivalry” isn’t what it used to be. Shaq, Vlade, Adelman, Rick Fox, Mrs. Christie, and Peja’s airballs are all gone. The Kings are hovering below .500, while the Lakers appear to be perched on the ledge of another title run. So, things have changed a bit within the last six years. But I had no idea they changed this much. After leading the Lakers to a come from behind win[117-105] in Sacto, Kobe had an interesting post-game interview.

During the game and interview, he got the MVP chant. Kobe Bryant. The bane of the Kings' existence. Kobe got the “MVP” chant in Sacramento. Sacramento? Sacramento?!? I never thought I’d live to see this happen. The impossible has been made possible. Water has been turned to wine. What’s next? Are the Heat gonna win 20 in a row? That can’t be dismissed now. It’s the NBA…where Holy Fucking Shit happens.

Will They Reminisce Over You, My God

Gangsta D:

Is Mike chiefin' or just drunk? lol

Da Realist:

Speaking of basketball... i got in late last night from class and couldn't sleep so i turned on the lakers/kings game 4. LOL... if it makes you feel better, that horry shot was like a dagger in the heart in 2002. there are few times in life as a sports fan that you feel that kind of gutcheck. we can take losses, but very few of them provide the kind of sting i'm talking about. this robert horry shot was one of them. wow... and i wasn't even a kings fan! i can laugh about it now, but i was definitely not in the best mood that day. :-)

I can think of a few right off the top of my head that hurt as much or more...

Miami vs florida state 2000

Miami vs florida state 2002

Reggie's shot in game 4 of 1998 eastern conference finals

Marat safin beating sampras like a drum in 2000 us open finals

Lleyton hewitt beating sampras like a drum in 2001 us open finals

49'ers beating the bears in the 89 NFC championship game (of course, i understand now... but back then i was 12. it was south pole weather and i didn't believe this sunshine team with their pretty boy quarterback and their passing offense was going to come to Chicago and win like that)

I could think of a few others if i had time. the point is, once you step back a little bit, you realize that it's these lows and the highs of sports that forces us to watch. last night was my first time watching that game without feeling like ripping open both of your throats. :-) see, we can be civilized.

Waldini:

lmao, were we that bad? :-)

I remember watching Game 4 at my in-laws house w/my father-in-law, wifey, wifey's cousin, and myself watching the game. My cousin was a HUGE laker hater and was talking mad shit throughout the game. And of course, I can't say much b/c the Lakers are getting spanked by 24 in the 1st half. But I tell you what, when Horry hit that 3, I never jumped that high in my life. If it wasnt for the fact we were at my in-laws, I would have used some better words than Gee golly whiz, would you look at that. Woulda been more like Shut that shit up trick and bow the eff down :-).

I never got as much up for a series than that one. I mean by this point, there were a lot of Laker haters and people hated to watch games with me. I didn't care, if you talk shit, you should expect me to talk shit back. All in fun, but I did get a lot of pleasure sending out that email w/Gangsta after that series ended.

When I watch these games, I think more about the teams I really hated and wanted my teams to beat more than anything

The Spurrier led Florida Gators

The late 90s-early 00s Baltimore Ravens

The early 00s Sacramento Kings

The 80s Celtics

Gangsta D:

The crazy thing is, I never saw it live. I was driving to ATL while the game was on. I kept trying to find sports stations to get updates on the score, but when I heard we were down by 20 I just gave up hope. After the Game 3 debacle, I thought we might be entering into a new era. I thought we were too old to compete. So I get to ATL and head to Jay's
apartment. He's not there, but his girl lets me in. We chat for a minute, then Jay comes in HEATED. He's mad pissed at Horry, and I'm like "Wha happened?" Then he tells me, and I think I screamed like a girl. It's amazing the number of gut wrenching games we've been on the winning side of.

Da Realist:

Da Wife didn't see it either. She was driving back from her mom's in mobile. So as she's driving, I'm calling her with all the updates. I'm crowing and puffing all game long. Then she goes out of cell range for about 30 minutes. She called back half a second after horry shot went in. I was just devastated. I kept watching the replay to see if he got the shot off in time. I simply told her the lakers won (without telling her how). She kept asking all these questions (how?? You just said... weren't they up by 20???) Without answering, got off the phone. My day was ruined.

Gangsta D:

YES!!! Those are the stories I love to hear! lol

Da Realist:

Well...i felt a little better after game 5. ;-)

Waldini:

That game pissed me off b/c none of the laker PGs could guard Bibby to save their life. They forced Kobe to expend more energy defending him and trying to put points on the board. Throw in some shaky officiating and you have a Kings W. I actually plan to watch that game when i get home tonight, even though it's just going to piss me off all over again :-) Read more!

Winners Win. Cryers Cry.

Da Realist

The 100 greatest beatdowns in history
95. NBA referees versus Sacramento Kings, Game 6, 2002 Western Conference finals: Kings called for 27 fourth-quarter fouls against the
Lakers as L.A. pulled out a 106-102 victory.
Gangsta D:

How did I know you would parse that ONE item from a hundred? Lol

Will we mention how Shaq fouled out of games 2 and 5, while getting to the line less than 10 times combined? Will we mention that? Nope, no need to mention that.

Da Realist:

THAT'S for the pippen debate you started. i felt like i had to choose between 2 children or pick my favorite grandmother.

Waldini:

Funny how anybody but a Lakers fan will always point to Game 6 as the poor, deserving Kings getting the wrong end of the referees whistle. Let's talk about Game 5 as Gangsta stated. Shaq fouls out, the Lakers were getting the wrong end of the ref's whistles, the Kings "won" that game. Or let's talk about Game 4 where bad refereeing was involved and the Kings blew a 20 pt lead. Shoot Divac should have been the Miller Genuine Draft player of the game for passing the ball to Horry to make the game winning 3. Or Let's talk, Game 7, on your own home floor, again no bad refereeing. both teams went to the FT line the same amount of times. One team just choked it away. I'm sorry if you are hanging Game 6 as the reason you lost a series, you are a jackass. What happened in Games 1-5 and 7. You didnt close out in those games. Bottom line, winners win, losers lose. Dont cry for the Queens. They were built for the regular season.

Shoot you're telling me you rather have a perennial underachiever (Chris Webber), the king of flopping (Vlade Divac), a man who cant control his wife (Doug Christie) and Mr April (Peja Stojakovic) representing the NBA as your champion. Get the f*** outta here.

Gangsta D:

Chuuuuch...

Waldini:

87. 2001 Fiesta Bowl: The once-pathetic Oregon State Beavers, full of pregame boasts, humiliated Notre Dame 41-9 -- and it could have been worse, as the Beavers were flagged for 18 penalties, many for illegal roughness and cheap shots.87. 2001 Fiesta Bowl: The once-pathetic Oregon State Beavers, full of pregame boasts, humiliated Notre Dame 41-9 -- and it could have been worse, as the Beavers were flagged for 18 penalties, many for illegal roughness and cheap shots.
Oh that game was GREAT! The touchdown celebration Chad Johnson and TJ Houzamandeh did in the end zone was classic.

Gangsta D:

Maybe the best TD celebration ever.

Da Realist:

FRAME THIS:-)

If you care about basketball, Friday night's Game 6 of the Western Conference finals was a rip-off. The Kings and Lakers didn't decide this series would be extended until Sunday; three referees did. Statistical evidence is usually circumstantial, but consider this anyway: the Lakers had shot an average of 22 foul shots through the first five games of this series, but on Friday night here at home they shot 27 . . . in the fourth quarter.
Gangsta D:

Fuck Wilbon! Not really, but I don't wanna hear it:)

Waldini:

I didn't know Wilbon had a drinking problem. Read more!
