Beisbol Es Muy Stupido [Not Really]

The MLB All-Star game is tonight and I could care less. I'm not a baseball fan. I don't hate the sport, but I don't follow it. Baseball is kind of boring and rather tedious. That being said, I've often kept a distant eye on it. I'm usually cognizant of who's in 1st place, who has the most HR's, and so and so forth. Nevertheless, this season has been markedly different. I'm totally in the dark about everything, well except for A-Rod. Maybe my baseball apathy has completey caught up with me. At any rate, I thought this might be a good time to re-post a piece I wrote for The Big Lead last year. Please remember that these are reasons that I am not a baseball fan, not black people in general. I can c-walk on the back of an SUV[inside joke] but I can't speak for an entire race.

A-Rod is the shit. That’s about the extent of my baseball knowledge. OK, that’s a lie. I know a little bit more. I’ll save you from my laundry list of known baseball facts, because I don’t care enough about baseball to list them all. I’m about as emotionally attached to baseball, as a meth head is physically attached to his teeth.

There’s been a lot of discussion lately about the dearth of black baseball players and the subsequent lack of interest from the black community. I can’t speak for the entire race, so I figured I’d give some personal experiences on the matter.

It all leads back to childhood. I could never get into the game as a kid, so I never really built a good relationship with it. Here are a few reasons why.

Too many players – You need way too many players to get a good baseball game going. Six people per team is the minimum. You need a pitcher, 1st-3rd basemen, and two outfielders. Where the hell are you going to get 12 kids who are really interested in playing baseball? We usually only had 4-5 total people which led to really short and boring games, once every six or so months.

Now take football or baseball. All you need is six total players to have a good game. Which sport do you think we picked, nine times out of ten?

No fields – Whenever we did happen to play, it was in a backyard. We used trees for bases. We couldn’t use real baseballs for fear of broken windows, so we used tennis balls. Not exactly the requisite tools for an optimum sporting experience.

Shit talking – Don’t underestimate this one. “Hey batta batta! Swing!” Just doesn’t have the same ring as “I got your game in my back pocket. I’m eating you for breakfast. I’m pissing on you.”

Basketball, of course, is the best game for trash talk. You can get served in one moment, then do the serving in the very next. You start mouthing off, he starts mouthing off, that false bravado rears its ugly head, and you start having fun. And fun is what it’s all about.

BOOORING – Baseball just isn’t all that exciting. Playing a baseball game is like shooting a movie. There’s a lot of standing around and waiting for something to happen. When it does, it usually lasts only a few moments.

We would play football for a couple of hours, then head to the basketball court and play for another few hours. I can’t remember spending nearly that amount of time playing baseball. Usually someone would say, “Hey this is boring. Let’s play football.” There was never a disagreement.

So there you have it. Baseball just didn’t resonate with me as a kid. Maybe if I was forced to join little league, I would’ve felt different. But the shitty backyard games we used to play turned me off to any organized aspirations. I played plenty of basketball and football as a kid, and hence became an avid fan of both. Read more!

Who Do You Work For?!?!

Da Realist:

Do you believe this dog-and-pony show baseball is putting on? It's hilarious, but what's not funny is that most people (journalists) do not get it.

First of all, the Mitchell report itself is all HEAR-SAY, since the author couldn't/didn't get subpoena rights. How is this report any different than something "hollywood access" would put out? I believe most of it is probably true, but still...isn't this america??? He even admits he couldn't finger everyone that did steroids. Bullshit report.

Secondly, if you can't see this next point then you need to be institutionalized. The media is in bed with the biggest cheat of them all, baseball itself. Baseball turned its head for years and profited from the "steroid era", dodged accounts to test for it until congress demanded it and then commissioned somebody that sits on the board of
directors for the BOSTON RED SOX to investigate (of which he had no real power so the only way he could get information would be to talk to "locker room people").

Somehow the media is outraged at Roger Clemons, Barry Bonds et al. What about BASEBALL??? And the media will keep the people they read about in this gossip report out of the HOF? On what grounds??? Steroids wasn't even BANNED during this time! So these players are gonna get banned for something that baseball didn't think warranted to be on the banned
list!???

But all you're going to hear about is roger clemons and barry bonds.

Gangsta D:

The thing that gets me is, no one can tell me why steroids are bad in the first place. Athletes take supplements to get bigger, stronger, and to heal. How much more does steroids help as opposed to legal supplements? Is it 5%? 10%? 50%? We don't know. We're not even a hundred percent sure on the health problems caused by steroids. There was a lot of "steroids may cause this or may cause that." But we don't know with any certainty. If steroids are prescribed and the user follows a a strict regiment, overseen by a DOCTOR, would that be a bad thing?

Da Realist:

Good points also. I just want to know why people can't see how the players are being used as scapegoats. It's different than track-and-field or biking. Baseball turned it's head and allowed it to happen. Now it wants to punish the ones that did it.

Gangsta D:

But you knew this was coming. Selig ordered it. He wouldn't do it unless he was assured that the fingers would be pointing away from him. He was a car salesman, before owning the Brewers, for crying out loud! lol Read more!

A Li'l Bit Of Everything

Gangsta D:

Boy, somebody on the Pats must be in league with the Dark Lord cause that game should've been over twice. Even though I'm no Rave die-hard, that loss was gut wrenching. They get stopped on 4th down, but Rex Ryan calls a timeout. Then they get stopped again, but the right guard false starts? That benefited the Pats, cause now they can go back into their spread offense. Then Bart Scott goes absolutely APESH*T after the TD. If he keeps his cool, the Raven probably get the ball back at the 35, at the minimum. Either Yamon Figures is gonna have a good return, or the Pats are gonna kick it away from him. Crazy game. Crazy game. God, I hope SOMEBODY beats the Pats. I don't care if they win the Super Bowl, I just don't want them to go undefeated:)

Waldini:

The zebras must have not gotten enough moolah from Shula and the remaining '72 Dolphins cuz they definitely blew this game. Besides the B'more meltdown, they also screwed up the Gaffney catch (that 'bama was juggling the ball like a circus performer). 4 games left and I only think one of those teams (Pitt) has a legit shot at beating NE. And they get that game at home, lol.

I can't hate completely too much since I got Brady as my Fantasy QB :-).

Gangsta D:

You know Ed, Ray, and Willis were hurting in the locker room. You know Ray cussed Billick out and probably Rex Ryan too:)

If the Pats don't lose in the regular season, hopefully we'll get a shot at them in the Super Bowl. Imagine an undefeated Patriot team going against a one loss Cowboys team. If we win, you know Romo's gonna bust out the threesome with Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson:)

Da Realist:

I hope your hatred doesn't extend to all things Boston because if they get Johan Santana you can wrap it up for the next five years. Beckett and Santana is LETHAL

Gangsta D:

I will spit on a Boston cream pie. SPIT!!! lol

Da Realist:

i don't see how baseball stays in business. only a small percentage of teams have a shot to win every year. nobody wants nfl parity (this year notwithstanding, lol...) but damn.

how do fans of minnesota or kansas city continue to support their teams knowing that

a) They have no real shot at the title and

b) Your best player will eventually play for the yankees or red sox.

People can talk about college football all they want, but there's nothing about baseball that's fair. nothing.

Gangsta D:

I don't think anyone in Kansas City does support the Royals:)

It's amazing how Boston has turned into New York. They used to be the ultimate underdogs. The lovable losers. Now people hop on the bandwagon and conversely hate them just like the Yankees. They no longer have the moral high ground to call New York the Evil Empire:)

Da Realist:

I'm not hating but I do find it interesting how baseball operates. Each team can negotiate their own television deals and keep the money. So big market teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers or Cubs can generate many times the revenue that the royals or padres can. Many many times. There is no revenue sharing so the rich get richer.

Small market teams rely on their farm system. Players gradually matriculate under their system until they are ready for the big-time. once some of these players become stars, these same clubs can't afford to keep them. Then the Yankees (or red sox) come in. So in effect, the Yankees treat the whole league as a farm system!

Lost in all of this are the owners. Most of them care little about actually winning. The culture in MLB is different than in the nba. Most NBA owners want to win...and besides, it's more profitable for them to win. This isn't the case in mlb. It's actually more profitable to stay average or lose than it is to win. The only way it is more profitable to win is if you are the yankees or the Braves, you have your own cable channel, you can afford to overpay for the top stars and still stay in the black.

The Chicago Cubs have been raking in money for years off losing teams. The reasons? sell outs, WGN and greedy owners that don't care about winning as much as they care about turning a profit.

1) So you have a league that doesn't reward competitive balance.

2) The owners notice this and concern themselves with the money by keeping teams average long enough to give fans hope (and rake in more money from paraphanelia, game tickets and concessions).

3) Players notice THIS and play for the money. That's why once-in-a-lifetime players like ARod, Greg Maddux and Pedro martinez have all played for multiple teams.

And yet people want to talk about the BCS every year

Gangsta D:

The BCS is flawed, but it is better than the previous system. But it IS flawed. Some years, there will be no-doubt-about it matchups. Some years, there will be what we have this year. No one can tell me that tOSU and LSU are head and shoulders above UGA, 'SC, VT, and OU. You just can't tell me that is the case. But there really is no use in begging for a playoff. It will never happen unless schools threaten to secede from the NCAA and start another "league," if you will. That ain't EVER gonna happen. So we'll just have to live with it, and gripe when necessary. Death, taxes, and the BCS.

Waldini:

According to the guy sitting next to me (an Buckeye alum), if it wasn't for the preseason ranking, that OSU's QB and RB would have been considered in the Heisman race. I literally choked on my M&M peanut when he said that. Read more!

Weekend Wrap Up

Waldini:

Baseball: After supposedly fighting a curse for a million years, the Red Sox win their 2nd title in 4 yrs. I guess the Rockies were not like the '01 Lakers after all. I can bank on Sports Guy writing a 50 page article on how his precious Sox have fulfilled his life's destiny. I dont know about you but it's starting to feel like the 80s w/Boston when you pretty much hated on every team they brought out. Red Sox won it, Patriots look like they will win it, Celtics are a contender, and Boston College is undefeated.....the world is very upside down

College Football: The wacky week continues as Kentucky loses at home to the now bowl eligible Miss St bulldogs (eat a dick Croom haters). Florida went from contender to pretender, Nebraska choked big time, Kansas continues to shock and awe (I still dont know anyone on their team), Ohio St continues to surprise me, USC just punched their ticket to the Holiday Bowl, and Erickson is working his college magic in Arizona St. Oh yea, usually I support my black coaches but damn Dorrell you are fucking it up for everyone. How in the hell you beat Cal and then lose to wack ass Wash St?!?! Oh and did you see the Div III lateral play? Fantastic

Pro Football: Say goodbye to the 1 pass defense Redskins. A man named Brady just went old school Tecmo Bowl on ya asses. I think Tommie Harris wants to take back his comments on the Lions (you do realize they are a playoff team as of now). Don't look now but New Orleans and San Diego (both preseason SB picks) are starting to make their move. I dont know about you but I'm geeked for next week's Colts-Pats showdown

Pro Basketball: The regular season kicks off Tues and there's drama galore. Will Kobe be traded? Will the Cavs' bench players play this year? Can Gilbert recover from last year's injury? Ditto for Flash Wade? Will 'Zeke keep his job? Is this the year the Suns and Mavs breakthrough? so many more questions but a long long season ahead. Oh yea that NBA on ESPN commercial w/the Celtics' Big 3 and Van Gundy is hilarious

MLS: I know you don't care but so what, I'ma still talk about it. The playoffs have kicked off and both Texas teams (Dynamo and FC Dallas) are representing. All that $$$ for Beckham and the Galaxy still dont make the playoffs. Bring back Cobi Jones!

That's all I got for now

Gangsta D:

Actually Miss St. is one game from being bowl eligible. But all they have to do is beat Ole Miss, which shouldn't be very hard. But I will second that Croom haters should devour phallus.

Lately, I've refused to read anything Simmons writes that has "Boston" in the lede. I'm not a Simmons hater but he's been pretty insufferable when it comes to Bahstin, lately. You know I'm pulling hard for the Colts next week.

It warmed my heart to see the Dawgs take it to the Gators. I loved the coach-approved celebration. Looks like Richt hasn't totally forgotten about his Miami roots. Nevertheless, if Miami HAD have done that there would be a shitstorm bigger than Katrina, Hugo, and Andrew combined. At any rate, any time Tebow is reduced to (near)tears I'm a happy camper.

This NBA season is gonna be entertaining, but probably for all the wrong reasons. The Lakers, as usual, will be the epicenter of much drama. Hooray Beer! lol Read more!

Weekend Wrap Up

Waldini:

- Baseball - The Sox rally from a 3-1 deficit w/Games 6 and 7 being blowouts. They even get a positive ROI in Dice K in Game 7. Realist, you watch this sport more than I do. I only know a handful of Boston players and no one on Colorado's squad. Who's winning this thing?

- College Football - Tenn fulfills their losing prophecy (dbl digit blowout), South Carolina and S. Florida become the latest upset victims, & Miami-Florida put on one of the best games in their series in years. How sad is it when your Punter is your Chevy Scholarship Player of the Game (Fighting Irish)? And do you realize that the Ala-Tenn and Miami-FSU game was reduced to regional coverage??? And that Michigan-Illinios was on PRIME TIME Television?!?!?!

- Pro Football - I almost saw shades of Buffalo-Houston '92 in the Houston-Tennessee game yesterday. Thank goodness My Bironas made his record FG count when it mattered. NE continues to roll. They better pray nothing happens to Brady or Moss b/c if either is injured, it's a wrap. The AFC East's a joke, the NFC East and AFC South are legit and don't look now but the Bears are quietly winning games again

Shockingly, I havent kept up with MLS or NBA so I dont know what's poppin there....

Gangsta D:

Once the Sawx won Game 5, I knew it was a wrap. For some reason, it reminded me of an NBA playoff series from last year:) The only way I can talk about baseball is to relate it to NBA terms. The Rockies have won 21-22 and will have a 9 day layoff. Very similar to the Lakers of '01 who won 20 straight and had a long layoff before the Finals. If the Rockies can shake off the rust of game 1, they can win. 21-22 isn't a fluke.

Finally we get a Miami-FSU matchup with some scoring. I still can't believe Kirby actually outplayed someone in crunch time. When Kyle didn't come back for the 2nd half, I thought it was a wrap. But I gotta give him credit, he came through in the clutch. UF beat UK, but at least Tebow got hurt:) Yeah I know that was mean, but that's just how I'm living right now. Notre Dame is horrible. Weis should be fired. His offense is nonexistent and he's had FOUR of his own recruits transfer this year. Something is rotten in Denmark, and it closely resembles Tweedle Dee.

My 'Boys were uninspired vs the Vikings, but at least we held Peterson in check. The defense can shut down anyone except for Tom Brady, apparently. The Dolphins and Rams may combine for 25+ losses. That's crazy. I'm surprised no coach has been fired yet, but I bet there are several before Thanksgiving.

Da Realist:

Bobby must go.

Gangsta D:

Very concise wrap up of the weekend Bitterman:) But you and I know that he isn't going anywhere. My question is how bad does it get? He woke up to a "For Sale" sign in his front yard. How nasty will the unrest get?

Da Realist:

He's going nowhere. FSU is living in the past. We're the new Alabama Crimson Tide. What's scary is...even if he retires, his fingerprints will still be all over the program. He wants to be a deity at FSU. He just doesn't have it anymore.

In fact, his "system" has always been predicated on having superior athletes. It's not that complicated. When he matches up with a team of comparable talent (i.e. miami), he loses the closely fought games. Think about it...FSU usually wins the games where there is no doubt we are the better team. That's why most of our victories over Miami are blowouts. Miami usually wins the games where they are decided favorites and also the games where we are evenly matched. Generally speaking.

Saturday's game hurt, but it didn't hurt. Let's just say I had a feeling we would cough up the game, but to lose to a Miami team that didn't even play that well...that part did sting a little bit. Read more!

Weekend Wrap Up

Waldini:

College Football - 'SC loses at home to a backup QB and a team favored to lose by 41pts, Clemson starts it's mid-season meltdown earlier than usual, Miles bucks his normal trend and doesnt choke a big game, ND fans finally cut the noose from the ceiling, and Realist and my teams' return to the top 25. This season has been absolutely crazy.....

Pro Football - My Titans continue to surprise despite a HORRIBLE offensive performance, the Bears bring Old Man Favre back to Earth, the Chargers finally play like a team that is supposed to be a SB contender, the Colts continue to roll with 5 starters out, and the Pats look like they are going to continue to whup people's a$$es.

MLB - 3 of the 4 divisionals are over. As Kenny Smith would say the Cubs, Phillies, and Angels are all going fishin :-). And the Yanks were fortunate enough to win Game 4. You peep George's comments about Torre. Pretty cold blooded....Any way, who would believe two expansion teams (Rockies, Diamondbacks) would be playing for the right to advance to the World Series?

(Update: Yanks are officially yanking pole as well)

NASCAR - Jeff Gordon aka Speed Racer won in Talledega over the wknd, giving him the the Nextel Cup lead. Can he make it 6 victories? Do you cats even care :-)?

Hockey - Again do you care :-)? the season did kick off last Thursday

Gangsta D:

I swear I thought I was watching a repeat of the Miami-UNC game last night. Only thing, Romo threw 5 picks instead of Kyle Wright's 4. My God were those brutal games. Last night, I couldn't sleep for almost two hours after the game ended. The Pats are a far better team, and we better tighten a whole bunch of ish up by Sunday.

Poor Joe Torre. Just couldn't win that FIFTH World Series for King George. Think there aren't about 10 GMs finishing off "You're fired" memos right now?

Neither one of us is Kenya, so no we don't care about NASCAR.

Here about Garnet totally ignoring the T-Wolves during a practice session over the weekend? Damn that's cold. The Basketball Gods may frown on the Big Ticket. Read more!

Weekend Wrap Up

Waldini:

College Football - No need since we touched on that yesterday :-)

Pro Football - Btw the injuries and the upsets, my fantasy teams took a beating. What is wrong with the vaunted Bears defense? The same for the Ravens? Why isnt anyone praising Crennel like they do Weis since his team is playing way over its shoulders? Are the Steelers now pretender for losing to 'Zona? Are the Chargers back on track? So many questions and a looooonng way to go in the season.

Boxing - I actually watched the Pavlik-Taylor fight and shocked to see Taylor get knocked out. Especially since he beat fast hard hitters like Hopkins and Wright. But everyone usually has some kryptonite opponent in boxing and Taylor just met his. I'm ready for the Mayweather-Hatton countdown.

Soccer - No Hope Solo must have got the "Know your Role, shut your mouth" Speech b/c she was canned for the 3rd place match against Norway. Serves her right and that ridiculous myspace post made her look even more stupid. How can your words be taking out of context when they didnt need to edit your remarks?!?!

Baseball - Ok, ok you got me. I have been paying attention to the playoff chase. Padres @ Rockies 2nite to decide who gets the final spot in the NL and a trip to Philly. Good job Mets for melting down. Does Chicago forgive Bartman now :-). Looking at those matchups, they have just of good as a chance as anyone to go to the WS.

Golf - President's Cup. Did anyone watch? And what is the difference btw this and Ryder Cup? Or did the PC replace the RC? I'm confused :-)

So much happening in the Sports World......

Gangsta D:

Tony Romo is God. No debates. No arguments.

Cleveland should probably be 3-1. But everyone considers it flukey that they're at .500. I'm torn, because I like Cleveland. But the Cowboys have their 1st round draft pick and I've been expecting that to be in the top 5.

Do people realize that the Raiders can win the AFC West? The Chargers appear to be done. The Chiefs and Broncos aren't world beaters. If Daunte leads them to the playoffs, do we have a Brees/Rivers situation again?

The Mets actually pulled off one of the biggest choke jobs in history. Their fans should at least be happy about that. If you're gonna scrub out, might as well make history doing it.

Waldini:

Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys..oh how Gangsta would die in heaven if he were here. Oh the fever has definitely spread throughout the city. Everywhere you, everywhere you look.

Gangsta D:

It's Romo's world. We're all just houseguests. There's still time to climb aboard that bandwagon. But hurry up, cause after we beat the Pats, there will be no more vacancies:)

Weekend Recap

Waldini:

- Do you realize none of our teams are still not ranked right now?? And that my Vols sit at the bottom of the SEC East? What's the world coming to? I liked this observation from Mandel about the SEC:

My take on the SEC at this point in the season: Two truly elite teams (LSU and Florida) and a whole bunch of good-but-not-great squads (Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee), any of whom could beat the other on any given night but would have a hard time hanging with the Tigers and Gators.
- This is turning into 2005 redux where you are constantly going WTF with some of the games. Georgia wins on the road, Kentucky wins on the road, Nebraksa barely hangs on, Michigan exposes Penn St, Miami crushes Texas A&M, App St loses to Wofford after beating Michigan, ND is 0-4 for the first time in school history, Arizona St is undefeated, the TT-OSU shootout, etc. Too bad my Vols are repeating their same 2005 recipe for disaster

- I gotta admit, the Cowboys are looking legit. They took one of the top NFL defenses and manhandled it (albeit in the 2nd half). Do these guys play NE or IND this year :-)

- Green Bay is 3-0. Now I have to hear about how Favre is the greatest this and that, and that his Packers are legit

- Did firing Schottenheimer really solve the Chargers problems?

- Angels and Indians clinch postseason spots, the Red Sox and Yankees look like they will clinch the other 2 AL spots and the NL still remains wacky. Who you got going? I may watch the postseason all the way through for a change since the race to get there has been so dramatic.

Gangsta D:

I have a feeling there will either be 3-4 undefeated teams at the end of the year, or 5-6 one loss teams. USC may look unbeatable, but ANYTHING is possible. The only thing I'll agree on is that LSU will beat Florida. It's at Baton Rouge, Tebow's passes were shaky when the game tightened up, UF is undisciplined, and they're defense can be moved on.
Well, I'll agree to something else. Even if ND only wins 2 games this year, Weis isn't going anywhere.

The Cowboys are the class of the NFC. Romo is an MVP candidate. Barber is a beast. TO is TO. Witten is about to move past Shockey and Gonzales. If we can get that D fixed, it's gonna get ugly. And oh yeah, October 14th. Pats at Cowboys. Game of the year.

Bret Favre is Bret Favre cause Bret Favre just does Bret Favre type things.

LaDanian looked so hurt during that press conference. He cried on the way home.

The Red Sox are crumbling. They have one starting pitcher, no bullpen, and no Manny. They're pretty much done. A-Rod gets a World Series MVP this year.

Waldini:

Why dont they go ahead and bench Julius Jones? I know it's a contract yr for him but it's obvious to everyone that Barber is the future back of that team.

Gangsta D:

Jones still has breakaway capability. He wouldn't have been caught on that long run. Jones is still capable. I like the two-back setup. Why tire out one RB, when you have two that are capable. Who starts doesn't matter, cause Barber always finishes. It's academic anyway, as we have the Browns draft pick and will be getting Darren McFadden. McFadden and Barber in the same backfield even scares me. Come on Browns, keep on losing:)

Waldini:

that would be very scary :-). A young QB and 2 young RB studs. Still not enough to convert me to be a local fan, lol

Da Realist:

i'm not sold on the yankees winning this year. they don't have dependable pitching. it's gonna be their fatal flaw in the postseason.

Waldini:

And I'm not sold on Alex coming up big in the postseason. He routinely flames out in October.

Gangsta D:

Hey, we're talking about baseball! Yaaaaaay team! Lol Read more!

Baseball, Sports Bars, And Other Things That Suck

Over to the right is Toni Braxton's sister. A couple thoughts: 1. I didn't know she had that much body. That bikini-type contraption is holding on for dear life. 2. I didn't know she was stupid enough to think that wearing that in public was kosher. But, you know, I would like to see more.

Waldini:

Why no love from you guys for soccer, golf, track, ping pong, poker, horse racing, hockey, mma etc :-)? If it's football, tennis or basketball, then it gets no play.

Da Realist:

I can't talk about things i don't know about. I don't watch any of those sports, except gold (majors). We COULD talk a little more baseball, though. ;-)

By the way, i added another notch on my quest to visit all the baseball parks. i went to miller park in milwaukee over the weekend.
Waldini:

See I'm like that with baseball. I only follow it when the playoffs and/or the World Series comes on. Otherwise to watch a regular MLB game on TV is boring to me. My grandfather's a HUGE Dodgers fan and when I was growing up every year my family would meet my grandmother and him in Atlanta (the old Fulton County stadium) to watch his precious Dodgers. One time he took my dad and me to a game when I was young. After the game, he asked me what I thought about baseball now that I have seen it in person and I said "The hot dogs are great!" he wasnt happy about my response :-)

Now I do like watching baseball in person at stadiums and I have gotten to see a few milestones ('02 when Bonds tied McGwire in Houston, I was there). I even like the parks and the atmosphere. but to watch a game on Fox on a Sat, hell naw, I'm seeing what edited movie is playing on TBS, TNT, USA or F/X instead.

But I do know that the Red Sox and Angels are killing in the AL, the Yankees are making a run, and the NL is a joke right now with all the parity.

Da Realist:

Actually going to a game is 10 times better than watching it on tv. not even close. In fact, i didn't even like baseball that much until we had a team outing at turner field in atlanta. way up there in the nosebleeds (best seats in the house at ANY baseball park -- and the least expensive too) i looked around...had a bird's eye view of the field and a wonderful view of downtown atlanta's skyline, i thought to myself, "hey. This is kinda cool".

Atlanta gets a little boring in the summer time so whenever i needed something to do, i would pay $5 for a ticket and $8 to park and have something to do for about 3.5 hours. The more we went to the games, the more we started actually paying attention to what was happening on the field.

Each park is a different experience -- different foods, different views, different fans, etc. we've now been to 7 parks together (braves, reds, cubs, brewers, mets, phillies, orioles). Hoping to add the pirates and nationals (when they get their new ballpark) next year.

So far, the best experience BY FAR is going to a baltimore orioles game. People to grill, cook or barbeque food outside the stadium and the orioles allow people to bring them inside the stadium. GOOD food. bbq sandwiches, ribs, brats, smoked sausages, pork&beans, etc. All cooked in front of you and sold at discounted prices. Not that "stadium food" at most parks. water is a dollar. sprite is a dollar. Bring a bag and take all that with you to the stadium. You wait until you're inside and you're gonna pay 3 times as much. And the park is beautiful, set in downtown Baltimore. Within walking distance of the best that baltimore has to offer -- seafood and italian restaurants, Baltimore aquarium, Maryland science museum, ESPNZone (for you, Waldini), Chesapeake bay. It's real nice. The Nationals are gonna have to pull something out of their asses to top it.

Waldini:

You know I have a love/hate with ESPNZone. I only love going there to watch games b/c they have so many going on at once. But I hate the food and the drinks are way ovverpriced. Fox Sports Grill is like that too. I prefer the local spots but no one seems to know where to check out a barrage of games in one setting whenever I come to their respective town

Da Realist:

The food at most sports bars suck. People who like sports will apparently eat anything. if espn had great food, i would just buy property around 11th & E and just use it as my extended living room. But having great food where we gather to watch sports just makes too much sense.

Waldini:

You know what makes me mad about those places. Is when they decide they want to charge you to come watch stuff and force you also to purchase that same crappy food. AKA Slick Rick

Hmmm. I have no idea if this is true, but LA Rag Mag is reporting that Derek Jeter gave Jessica Alba herpes. If this is true, Derek Jetah is the biggest douchebag in the history of douchebaggery. How he could sully the formally pure Jessica is beyond me. You wanna give herpes to Mariah, Vanessa Minnilo, or Jessica Biel? Fine, but not Ms. Alba. You are pond scum Mr. Jeter.

Of course, I can no longer refer to him as Derek. This news calls for a "Herpes alias" renaming. Invoking the spirit of Ron Mexico, I now dub you "Ricky Bolivia". Suck on that you dirty dick bastard.
