Insane Weekend In College Football

Waldini:

- Man, I told ya'll I was converted to watch Big 12 games this season after the Red River shootout and last night didn't disappoint. Yep, I spurned my own boys (who embarrassed themselves as usual) to watch the classic in Lubbock. Harrell put 400 plus on dem Horns and that Crabtree 4Q catch, body control, and game winning TD was pure hotness. Do I think Texas Tech will run the table? hell naw, they losing to OU in 2 weeks.

- Speaking of Smokey, hmm, 4 conference losses versus 1 conference win with 3 conference games left to play. They either will finish last or next to last in the SEC East. Still think I should support Phil in his dark days. Me neither....

- The ACC is quietly putting on an interesting battle week in and week out. Miami upsets the suddenly mighty Cavs on the road, Clemson shocks BC on the road, GT holds off the surging 'Noles, and Maryland keeps rolling. They have 4 teams in the top 25 right now and both divisions are far from being decided.

- Georgia oh Georgia. Everytime, I fall for the koolaid (see Quincy Carter in the late 90s), you do your best to make me look stupid. Yesterday was no exception. People said the offensive line was the major weakness. Hell naw, look like that defense may have been overexaggerated.

- Speaking of D, I told you that Longhorns D wasn't that good. Good defenses don't repeatedly give up 30 plus pts to teams. They shut 'em down.

- Don't sleep but Boise St and Utah are both undefeated and making noise. Will we have two party crashers this year?

Waldini: After watching the Miami-Florida game, I said to myself, you know Florida can be beat. Percy Harvin is banged up and Tebow is still running too much. That said, my Vols look bad. You can't intercept a QB 4 times and lose. And then the same team you lost to, took its' worst loss in school history a week later. This is the first in a brutal stretch (Fl, @AU, @GA). I'm picking TENN but only cuz they at home.

Gangsta D: Florida isn't unbeatable. Wow what a shock. Kind of surprising since the team lost four games last year, no? lol But, I don't know that the Vols can beat them. Playing them at home is a plus, and their safeties are crucial. But I hear Crompton's ankle isn't 100%, and the Vols offense wasn't exactly clicking when it was. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm going with the Gaytors.

UGA vs ASU

Waldini: Georgia's offense looked woeful last week against the Gaycocks. I don't know if it was as much as South Cack's D as it was Gawga missing half it's starting offensive line. On the flip side, Arizona St lost to UNLV at home. Plus Georgia's D is sic. GEORGIA

Gangsta D: This is the first time Georgia has been west since the 60's. I don't think you can totally discount long travel. But the Dawgs are too good. South Cack has a damn good defense, which is why UGA struggled last week. ASU doesn't match up, and the Dawgs pull away late.

Waldini: This is another tough one. LSU hasn't really played anyone and I don't even know who are their supposed stars. Auburn played in one of the worst games I've witnessed in quite some time last week. LSU

Gangsta D: Knowshown Moreno is pretty much the truth. Give the ball 25 times and he'll get you 150 yds. Auburn's defense is tough, they've had success in Athens, and they'll be looking to avenge the pistol whipping they got last year. But, I'm going with the home team. Moreno looks like a future Heisman candidate.

Waldini: Tuberville is now rumored to take the Aggies' head job once they relieve Franchione. What does that mean for this game? Absolutely nothing, I just wanted to point it out. Back the analysis....Moreno's gotten better, Stafford's cut down on his turnovers, and Richt has found his offensive mojo. On Auburn's side, Cox is more experienced and that defense is very very good. Tough choice but I'm going with AUBURN

Da Realist: This game could be a classic between two good, solid, but not great teams. i'm going with Road Warrior Tuberville. AUBURN


ARK vs UT

Gangsta D: Hmmm. Tennessee plays better at home, but they have no defense, and Humanity Advanced is coming to town. For some reason I'm going with the Vols. McFadden will rush for 200 yds but Casey Dick will only throw for 50. I don't necessarily feel good about this pick.

Waldini: Another tough one b/c both teams either look real good one week or pollywolly crappy the next. Their defenses are both jokes and it will come down to McFadden vs Ainge. Those are the two leading offensive stars for both sides. Forget about Dick, Foster, Fulmer, Nutt. These two will decide the game. Another tough one but Vols are at home so VOLS.

Da Realist: All Tennessee has to do is just win out and they'll punch their ticket to Atlanta. But this is the SEC in the year of the upset. Nothing is as expected. Tenn can't stop the run and find a way to lose at home to ARKANSAS

Gangsta D: Good ole Steve Superior is looking to get back at the Gators. If it weren't for a couple blocked kicks, the Cocks would've derailed UF's nat'l title season. Unfortunately for Steve, Danny Wuerfel isn't walking through that door. The Gator defense is a sieve, but the Cocks don't have enough weapons to make a dent.

Waldini: Can Meyer motivate the troops (Tebow, Harvin, Caldwell) to rebound from a bad loss to GAWGA? Can Spurrier REALLY motivate the troops (Mitchell, Smelley [if he plays]) to bounce bad from giving up a conference record rushing performance? Florida definitely isnt going to run the ball efficiently. Some reason I think SC is motivated by the Bo Berry Biscuit special (2 for a 1) waiting on them after the game ends. SOUTH CAROLINA

Gangsta D: I'm going with the home team. Drew had a good game at BC, but he's still Drew. Sean Glennon actually looked like a college QB against Tech, and Tech's defense will be tough as usual. It'll be a dogfight, but the Hokies pull it out in the end.

Waldini: I picked against FSU last week b/c I thought BC was better. I'm picking against them this week b/c I have to get back in the weekly pick championship chase, lol. Although the Hokies offense leaves MUCH to be desired and FSU is quietly putting up decent offensive number along with their defense making BIG plays. Damn I really think FSU is the better team but oh well. HOKIES

Da Realist: Somehow FSU gets up for the big road games. VT may just be a little overrated. This is like a big brother-little brother matchup. Frank Beamer created VT in the likeness of FSU. Gangsta D: It's the "Blown Season Bowl." This looked to be an epic battle back in September. Now, it's just another Pac-10 game. It's actually a coin flip this year. I'll go with the Bears. Maybe this week, DeSean Jackson will play like he wants to be a top 10 pick.

Gangsta D: The final game at the Orange Bowl. So many memories. So many Nat'l Championships. Wide Rights. Wide Lefts. Fights. Beatdowns. Classic Endings. You name it, the Old Lady saw it. Miami is planning on having a BUNCH of alumni at the game. It's gonna be crazy. If we don't come out like "300" and destroy everything in our path, something is wrong. Kyle is starting, so we should have more than one completion. UVA is good, but I just can't see Randy allowing this team to lose this game. Just can't see it.

Waldini: Why is this game on here :-)? Just kidding D I know you'll have the box of tissues by your side for this game. UVA has won 5 games by a total of 7 points. Gangsta D: Autzen Stadium will be a madhouse. The Ducks will be geeked. USC is not "USC" this year. They're just not as explosive on offense. The defense appears to be pretty good, and they will get tested by Dennis Dixon. I'm gonna go with the Ducks, based on the home crowd and QB experience. Sanchez went off against ND, but I could go 15-28/200/3 against ND. Ducks hang a number on the Trojans.

Gangsta D: Well Rutgers is coming off a big win, and they've had two extra days to prepare. WVA has sort of hung around under the radar since laying an egg at S. Florida. I think we might see about 450 combined rushing yards between the two teams, cause Ray Rice is gonna get it about 35 times. Rutgers' defense is pretty stout, but I think the Mountaineers pull this one out.

Gangsta D: "He's cut! He's cut! The Russian's cut!" Well Tebow has a bad wing and has been limited in practice this week. But I hear that UF will not change their gameplan. Which means that he's gonna run 15-20 times. I thought Urban loved Timmeh. He's gonna get the boy killed. Teebo gets all the hype, but his receivers make the engine hum. They're just too fast and shifty for the Dawgs. If UGA's RB depth weren't in the shitter, they'd have a shot at wearing the Gator defensive front down. But one RB and a still inconsistent Stafford isn't gonna be enough to do it. I HOPE I'm wrong, but the Gators win another one.

Gangsta D: No freaking idea. None. The Cocks laid an egg the size of an elephant shit pile last week. The Vols showed up in the 1st Qtr then decided to take the rest of the game off. Explosive offenses hurt UT. The Cocks are not fortunate enough to have anything comarable to an explosive offense; maybe explosive diarrhea. Somehow Phil finds a way to stick to Spurrier. Of course, this will probably be the game that the Cocks score 40. Can't figure these teams out.

Gangsta D: ASU took our OC from last year, Rich Olson, and paired him up with Dennis Erickson. The two held the same positions at Miami in the early 90's. At the time I thought that it would probably work out. Didn't think ASU would be undefeated and in the top 5 though. I haven't seen them play but since they're undefeated, they must be good right? Cal, on the other hand, has lost two in a row. I doubt they can go on the road and break that slump. I'm going with the former 'Canes in this one.

Miami vs FSU

Gangsta D: Yeah, I don't really know what to make of this team. We can look very good, then we can look very bad. We're mediocre. There always seems to be a brightspot, that is quickly replaced by an eclipse. I have no idea which team will show up. We've been plagued by injuries. Our D-tackle depth is hurting as well as LB. Antone Smith may find some running room. But our DE's are stout, so we may be able to keep Xavier in the pocket. FSU has a tough run defense, so it may be up to Kyle. Ugh. Kyle, as usual, has been a mixed bag this year. I thought he had progressed but then came the 4 INTs at UNC and, that was that. I really have no idea how this game will go. Both teams have MPD, and have yet to play up to their full potential. Obviously I'm going with the Canes, but who knows what will happen.

Da Realist: I may be the only person outside of Florida that's gonna record the game. they both suck, but it's still Miami at Florida State. In the best of times or the worst, these two teams always seem to mirror each other. Unfortunately, this year that means inept offenses, strong defenses, mistakes, penalties and mediocrity. FSU cannot run the ball. Miami is quick enough to keep Xavier (who doesn't like to run anyway) from getting any significant yards with his legs and those jump balls he likes to throw may get intercepted more often this week. I want to pick FSU, but i have a very hard time seeing miami losing 3 games in a row for the season and also 3 games in a row in the series (when the talent level has been so even). The Canes make just enough first downs to wear down that nasty FSU defense and FSU probably coughs it up a couple of times. MIAMI

Waldini: I hope for the sake of college football, the state of Florida, and both of you that these two powerhouses figure out how to restore luster to this game. I think Xavier finds a way not to make mistakes and ultimately get his 'Noles the W. SEMINOLES


Auburn vs LSU

Gangsta D: Apparently Auburn has righted the ship, even though they really didn't look that good last week. LSU is coming off of two hard fought games in a row, but there is no rest for the weary in the SEC. I can't believe people still think the SEC is overrated. I think Auburn has a chance, due to the emotional toll the Tigers have weathered the last two weeks. But, LSU is far too talented to lose to this Auburn team at home. It's a close one though.

Da Realist: Who ARE the auburn tigers? If they are the team that lost to Mississippi State at home, then LSU will destroy them. If they are the team that beat Florida then they have a good shot at beating lsu. The last 3 games have been low-scoring, defensive battles that weren't decided until the final moments. This game will be the same way. Auburn won't be intimidated about walking into tiger stadium. They have the defense to frustrate LSU (they held Ark to 67 rushing yards last week), but they just can't score. Auburn will have to win by field position, field goals and hope LSU falters in the kicking game and coughs up a couple of turnovers. In a defensive slugfest between two physical teams, I like AUBURN

Waldini: It would be easy to say LSU but Auburn is the best Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde team. You never know which squad is going to show up. Their kicker has moxy and it was funny as hell to see him doing the Gator chomp when they won in Gainesville. But LSU is pretty po'ed about losing last week and they got a nice gift from Rutgers last night. You dont think they are motivated to open up a can of whup a$$? TIGERS (LSU)


UT vs Bama

Gangsta D: What to make of the volunteers? Get smoked by Cal and UF, but then look like world beaters against UGA. The bloom appears to be off the rose in Tuscaloosa. The Tide hasn't been knocking people's socks off lately. But, they are at home and I still don't trust the Volunteers. Too helter skelter for me. Bama by a smidge.

Da Realist: Bryant-Denny stadium will be rocking for this one. Tennessee proved something last week (at home), but they don't bring it every single week. The tide haven't played well lately but will want to use this game to springboard the rest of their season. They'll win by 3. ALABAMA

Waldini: Both these teams also doing a good job of not knowing which team you are going to get each week. Check Tenn's W-L record. When they win, it's by double digits. When they lose, it's by double digits. Alabama has been going through identity crisises trying to figure out if they want to be SEC contenders or pretenders. I got TENN on the road


Michigan vs Illinois

Gangsta D: Well, it really depends on how healthy Mike Hart is. If he can go, and I mean really go, then the Wolverines will win big. I think the Illini proved last week that they weren't ready for primetime. If Hart is gimpy, I still think Michigan wins, but it's by a FG or less. Illinois will be sick next year, but they're just not ready to be good this year.

Da Realist: This is screaming trap game. Michigan is feeling good about themselves after dismantling Purdue last week. Illinois lost to a bad Iowa team last week. Looking ahead? The game's in Champaigne, the expectations are with Michigan AND Hart is hurt. ILLINOIS

Gangsta D: Illinois is a 2.5 point favorite AT Wisconsin!! What hath Zook wrought? I'm not totally sold on Illinois yet. Aurellious Benn appears to be the truth. Juice Willimas is making plays. But I still haven't seen too much of them. The Badgers have a pretty potent offense, but their defense is HORRRRIBLE. They let the Citadel go off on them. Michigan ST could've won last week. But I don't think Illinois has the minerals to waltz into Camp Randall and pull it off. Of course, I would've said the same about Colorado last week. Nevertheless, I'm going with the home team.

Gangsta D: Sorry Smokey, but the dogs have no fear of Neyland Stadium, as they haven't lost their since the last century. UT's defense is mad suspect, and the dogs have a potentially explosive running tandem with Thomas Brown and Knowshon Moreno. As long as the Kegmaster doesn't throw off his back foot into coverage, the dogs should come out on top. The defense may be suspect, but the Vols don't have anyone on offense that scares me.

Gangsta D: Yep, we all picked Clemson to win last week knowing full well that a loss could signal their tradional mid-season swoon. Well, do the Tigers rebound or do they slip further into the morass? Tech doesn't impress me at all. I suppose they're defense is still legit, but Brandon Ore has been disappointing and they're starting a true Freshman at QB. The game is at Death Valley, and I just can't see a true freshman pulling that out. The Tigers win in spit of Tommy.

Gangsta D: Florida losing last week, worries me a little. I was predicting a double digit beatdown before the Auburn game, but now I'm not so sure it'll be that bad. Urban will have them ready to play. But, Aubrun gave the blueprint on how to contain Florida and LSU's defense is much better than Auburn. Tebow will not add to his heisman resume with this game. A night game at LSU is almost certified death for an opponent.

1. USC - Withstood penalties, TOs, a frisky Washington team, and came out with a win. Washington is a good team and they beat them in their backyard. No reason for them to fall.

2. LSU - Boy did they come out flat. Definitely looked ahead to the matchup with UF. But they put the hammer down when needed to.

3. Cal - Of course nobody east of Malibu saw this game, but to go into Autzen Stadium and pull out a win is major. There may be something to this team. I believe they have 'SC at home this year. Could be the game of the year.

4. S. Fl - Seem kind of high? Who else would you put here? Ohio St. hasn't played anyone, and Wisconsin can't play defense. The Bulls can definitly play D. They were tagging W. VA all game long. That win over Auburn just got a little better.

5. I'm leaving it blank for now. Someone has to earn their way in.

1. LSU - I'm putting them back at 1. You're right they came out flat but they still won by double digits. How many teams can say that? Are they head and shoulders above everyone else like the experts say. Obviously not after last weekend. If they come out flat against Florida, they will get handled.

2. USC - They struggled with a Huskies team that was up for them. Booty looked ordinary but he's still better than 75% of the QBs in the nation when he's off. Their strength is the running game and they need to focus on that instead of trying to get these young WRs to be the next Dwayne Jarret, Keary Colbert, Micheal Williams or Steve Smith. You got 100 RBs, use them until the opposition cant take it anymore

3. Cal - Good job ABC deciding to regionalize the coverage during the Oregon-Cal game (I got K state-Texas). They continue to do their thing and I too eagerly await the USC game. Desean Jackson broke out of his slump and put on a dazzling display, at least what I saw from the highlights. Wow, I just realized their are two Pac 10 teams in the top 5 and only 1 SEC team. Guess this SEC homer is eating the same crow as Old Man Holtz

4. Ohio St. - They beat the same U Dub team handily that the mighty trojans struggled with. Nobody talks about them b/c they havent beaten anyone nor do they have any major playmakers besides Chris Wells. The Big 10 is down this year so Tressel got lucky during his team's supposed rebuilding year. Looking at their conf rivals, who honestly would scare them: Michigan, Penn St, Wisconsin?!?! They wont go undefeated b/c that's not in OSU's history but I cant figure out who they will choke too. My money's on Michigan as they usually spoil the Buckeyes season

5. South Florida - Auburn on the road, West Virginia at home, yep that gets you in the top 5 I suppose. But tell me this, name me one player on their team :-). I dont even know their coach's name. I dont even know their mascot. I just know they are in Tampa and that's only Tyrone told me that on Friday. When do they play Louisville and Rutgers? Seems to me that's the only thing standing in their way

HONORABLE MENTION: Kentucky b/c they are the only undefeated team in the SEC East and that's crazy to even type that in 2007. Woodson's for real but we'll find about the team when it begins it's divisional games starting Saturday.

Bama vs FSU

Gangsta D: Technically not a home game for FSU, but who are we kidding? The Garnet and Gold will be substantially represented in the stands. But will it matter? Bama has played two gut wrenching games in a row. Do they have anything left? Can the 'Noles get their offense going? Bama seems to be on the right track, but I don't know if they're ready emotionally. My brain says to go with Bama, but I think the "home" crowd pushes the 'Noles to victory.

Da Realist: No way does Alabama fall asleep at the wheel in this game so I can't say that FSU will have a motivational advantage. We know Bobby wants this game, but there is another subplot that is just as interesting -- teacher vs student. Jimbo has had 2 weeks off to wake up the offense and get the boys ready. I'm sure he's made quite a few changes (maybe, just maybe including the quarterback position), but Nick wants this game just as badly. I just don't think FSU will be able to bring enough.

They "can" do it, but I need to see them pull out a game like this before I have confidence in them. We still got yahoos getting tasered by the cops on the eve of the biggest game of the season! And we still got Ol' Bobby giving them the message that the game is more important than respect. We're a little banged up and frankly, I don't think we have the speed to keep up with their wideouts all game long. And I don't care about the criticism of John Parker Wilson -- he looks better than any FSU qb i've seen in years. ALABAMA

Cal vs Oregon

Gangsta D: Autzen Stadium is gonna be rocking. Dennis Dixon appears to be the truth. Cal is explosive, but so is Oregon's crowd. This is gonna be one of those classic Pac-10, sling the ball around, nobody play defense, trick play bonanzas. Final score should be in the 45-38 range. These teams look to be even, so I'm going with the home team. It's just hard to beat a good Oregon team at home.

Waldini: This just in, the Ducks lose their top receiver for a year. But they still have Dixon and he's a beast. This should be the game of the week as you have two high octane offenses and neither's defense strikes fear in anyone. Clemson vs Gtech

Gangsta D: OK, it's safe to say that Tech is vastly overrated. Stomping ND is no longer a good litmus test. Clemson appears to be on one of their tradional early season rolls. But can they maintain it? Tenuta's defense specializes in tormentin QBs, which is great for Clemson cause they can't throw it. James Davis and CJ Spiller will get heavy work and wear down the yellow jackets. I'm crossing my fingers, and hoping that Tommy isn't screwing with us once again. Clemson by double digits.

Da Realist: The Yellowjackets shouldn't even be in this game by the fourth quarter. Clemson should not lose in the regular season. of course they probably will, but not this game. CLEMSON

Gangsta D: This is gonna be a good one. The mountaineers have a lethal run game. S. Fl is on the comeup. I was tempted to take the Bulls, until this:

Noel Devine comes home to Florida and runs for 135 yds on six carries. And the Bulls get a much needed dose of reality, and hopefully some humility.

Da Realist: The Bulls are not ready to win this game. I would feel better about their chances if it was in Morgantown. The Bulls have won 2 straight games and I'm always leery about picking a team to win 3 straight. The Mountaineers pull this out on the road. WEST VIRGINIA

Waldini: Great offense (WVa) vs a Great defense (USF). Can that defense stop White, Slaton, and now Devine. Maryland did for a quarter and a half, then BAM it was lights out. Miss St vs S Car

Gangsta D: Three wins for Sylvester. Just two more and he's guaranteed a job for next year. The Bulldog defense is actually pretty good, and OBC is trotting out a freshman for his first start. Neither offense can really put up points so it's going to be a defensive struggle. Couple that with the home crowd and the 'cocks pull this one out. However, if the
Bulldogs win I won't be disappointed.

Da Realist: Let's not get carried away here. The Bulldogs are still a work in progress. The Gamecocks were dominated last week, but they DID beat the dawgs between the hedges earlier this year. And besides, they won't lose 2 weeks in a row. SOUTH CAROLINA

Waldini: We see you creeping up in the W column Sylvester. I'm real happy for him b/c the Bulldog alumni have been smoking crack when it comes to their football team and expectations. But I cant see them pulling another miracle like they did in Auburn 2 wks ago. And now that Spurrier pulled another Danny Wuerffel-Terry Dean with his current set of QBs, I think those boys come out and doing their thing. Gangsta D: Who's got the balls to pick Auburn in an upset? Well if Jason Campbell, Ronny Brown, and the Cadillac were playing, I'd definitely take the Tigers. Unfortunately, they're not walking through that door. Anyway, you know how I feel about Florida. They can be beaten. Maybe Auburn plays with some emotion and pride. Maybe Brandon Cox pulls his head from his hindquarters. Maybe. But I don't think they have the athletes to do it. It will be close, but Florida wins another squeaker. And we have to hear about the greatness of Tebow for another week. I can't wait for them to go to Baton Rouge.

Da Realist: This is the SEC and anyone can win any game on any given saturday, but Auburn has been awful. Give me FLORIDA.

I know it's early. Way early. But just for kicks let's post our top 5. And name one dark horse that can bust everything up.

1) USC - They have such a methodical way of dispatching their opponents. No emotion...almost casual. They walked into nebraska "federer-ed" them.

2) LSU - They are talented, but I have to see more. How good is virginia tech? Plus they were at home. I'll leave them at 2 for now.

3) UF - They demolished UT. UT is overrated, but 59 is 59.

4) Oklahoma - They looked good beating Miami at home, but how good is Miami? And they won't really get a chance to prove themselves because yet again the Big 12 sucks.

5) Penn State -- Only because I haven't seen West Virginia play anybody yet (Maryland doesn't count). Then again, I haven't seen PSU play anybody either (Notre Dame REALLY doesn't count). Scratch it -- No. 5 is a pickem.

oh...and my darkhorse is ARKANSAS. Anytime you are as one-dimensional as they are and STILL wear down a very athletic Crimson Tide team running it down their throat, you have to be pretty darn good. on the road at that! And if not for that bogus interference call at the end, they would have won this game. They were down 31-10! unbelievable. Still can't believe it.

Their last game of the season is LSU. Think about that. LSU has to play Arkansas, at Alabama and Florida, in addition to Kentucky and Auburn. If they go undefeated they shouldn't even have to play in a bowl game. Just give them the trophy in December.

Gangsta D:

1. UF - Defending national champs. Destroying everything in their wake. You have no idea how annoyed I am to write this.

2. USC - Defense appears to be the truth and the offense is coming around. Did you see the kickoff where the 'SC returner fumbled the ball, but a LB picked it up and ran 50 yards? Pete Carroll's deal with the Devil has to come due some time soon doesn't it?

3. LSU - Special defense, but I'm waiting for Matt Flynn to put up numbers against a good defense. Va Tech is overrated.

4. OK - Apparently can't be stopped on offense and they have a faster than I expected defense. Texas won't test them. Probably won't find out how good they are until their bowl game.

5. WVU - That running game is sick. Noel Devine is ridiculous. He's gonna run for a 1000 yards on about 150 carries.

Darkhorse Kentucky - What the hay? Andre Woodson can put points on the board. Louisville has no defense, but it was a big game and he didn't get rattled.

You're sold on Kentucky aren't you? Think they can beat any of the big boys in their conference?

Sold may be too strong a word, but they definitely impressed me. They could've given up when Louisville came back. They had a big 15 yard penalty to set them back with :39 seconds to go in the game, and they get a TD to win it. They can't beat UF. But they can beat UGA, Scar, Auburn, UT, and Ala. I don't think they're run defense can stop Ark, but a 9 win season will do just fine in Lexington:)

Waldini:

1. LSU - One week, only the defense shows up and they post 45. The next week both the O and D meet and it's over in the first quarter. Va Tech's defense is legit and they got posterized. Agree with Realist, they go through the SEC undefeated, just hand them the trophy now. They get most of their tough tests in Death Valley

2. USC - The media complains about them not being flashy but who cares, they get the job done. Nebraska didnt realize they were playing USC and not WF until when it was garbage time. But who cares, they are legit. I cannot wait until they play Cal and Ore, assuming those teams continue to do their thing.

3. F***in Gators

4. West Va. - Pick your poision btw White, Slaton, and now Devine. I know they havent faced the stiffest competition AND that defense is very suspect. But would you want to get into a shootout with these guys. They got 3 legit playmakers that can bring you back into a game. And none of them graduate this year!

5. Oklahoma - By default. They havent played anyone, the Big 12 is complete garbage, and they prbly will lose in their BCS game when they face a real opponent.

Darkhorse - Rutgers. They have a solid team. Good RB (Ray Rice), Good coaching (Schiano), and a very legit Defense. It will be interesting when they play West Va.

Decisons Decisions To Make

Gangsta D:

OSU-UW, ND-Mich, UF-UT, and UM-FIU all play at 3:30. Should I focus on the two competitive games and forsake my Canes and a possible Irish beatdown? Or do I try to catch them all, thereby driving myself insane? What sayeth the congregation?

Waldini:

Usually when my boys play, it's them and no one else....So watch the Canes and flip to other games during commercial break :-)

hell naw! drive yourself insane. it's the only way. park your self on the sofa, have the woman bring you meat and chips, glue the remote control to your hand and see if you can go the whole day without seeing even one commercial. ;-)

I'll probably tape the canes. That way I can watch it without missing anything, while still switching back and forth between the other games. It's gonna be hectic. I think my eyes are gonna shoot out of my head around 4:15.

You'll quickly get the hang of it and develop a sixth sense as to when you should change the channel. Something in your mind is going to tell you "notre dame, first and goal at the six" and you'll know to turn. Trust me, it will kick in by halftime. Of course, if you're watching with someone, they will go CRAZY. By the time Da Wife has figured out the situation, i've already changed back to the original game. An example conversation...

"Why did you just turn?"

"The huskies just got a first down at their own 40, but nebraska is in field goal range on 3rd down. which would YOU rather see right now?"

"Oh. But how do you catalog and prioritize everything so fast?"

USC vs NEB

Gangsta D: USC has been ordained the best team in football once again, but they were kind of pedestrian against Toledo. Nebraska didn't exactly look like the World's Greatest against Wake Forest either. I wonder if the bye week hurt 'Sc or will help them. It's always tough playing Nebraska. But, the Trojans just have too many athletes. Nebraska would have to play over their heads to pull this one out. I think it's closer than the experts predict, but 'SC pulls it out nevertheless.

Waldini: I'm not impressed by Carroll, Booty and co PLUS it's weird they have 9 tailbacks on their roster. But I agree, Nebraska didn't lay the smack down on the Demon Deacons like they should have. Originally I had Nebraska but I'm switching to the dark side er I mean USC.

Da Realist: I didn't see usc play, but I saw Nebraska stumbling against Wake Forest. USC has more athletes, even if they are raw and not 100%. I can't remember the last big win Bill Callahan has had in college or pro. USC is used to being everyone else's "game of the year". USC


Ohio St vs UW

Gangsta D: I'm officially on the Ty Willingham bandwagon. Ok I've never really been off, but it looks like Ty has his team ready to play. Jake Locker is trying to cement his status as the White Pat White. Ohio St didn't look that impressive to me against Akron at home. They were up 3-2 in the second quarter. Plus the Buckeyes have to travel cross country to play in a stadium that will be rocking. Can the new QB handle the pressure? Ken Dorsey couldn't in 2000, so there is definitely precedence. I think U-Dub wins and it's by double digits.

Waldini: I picked against you last week Ty, I wont make the same mistake again. I thought Wells was supposed to be the 2nd coming of Eddie George at OSU. That offense struggled against a not on the same level as Appalachian St team called Akron. That's all I need to know. HUSKERS

Da Realist: I hope the Huskies can find a way to win this game and officially throw dirt on the corpse of the Big Ten this year. and oh boy would he stick a big "f you" in the faces of all Notre Dame fans. I just don't see it happening. OSU.


ND vs Mich

Gangsta D: The most hyped game between two winless teams in the history of hyped games. Ryan Mallet versus Jimmy Clausen. Let's just say that the running game is gonna be very important on Saturday. Edge goes to Mich and Mike hart, who is the only Wolverine who seems to be playing to potential. Lord Weis loses his FIFTH in a row, hopefully by 20+ points.

Waldini: The hate in me wants me to go w/Mich but losing Henne is huge. I saw Mallet in mop up duty last week. He's got a cannon but he doesnt have that accuracy down yet. Mike Hart can only do so much see App St game. But Clausen didnt exactly drum up memories of Montana or Theisman either. And that offense is atrocious. Gimme Mich in the Donut Bowl

Da Realist: Michigan has some athletes, but they are slow. Notre Dame doesn't have athletes. Michigan has trouble with speed and mobile quarterbacks, neither of which Notre Dame has. UM


BC vs G-Tech

Gangsta D: I'm sold on Matt Ryan. Dude just puts up numbers. We know he's good. But we don't know if Tech is any good. Throttling ND and Samford doesn't really tell me a whole lot. Their running game is good, as Tashard Choice is a proven commodity. But Taylor Bennet didn't impress me at ND. Plus, we don't know if Tech's secondary is any good because the Irish passing game is pretty nonexistent. Normally I would go with the home team, but I'm getting darkhorse Heisman vibes from matt Ryan. Well see if he turns into Carson Palmer or Kyle Orton. BC in a squeaker.

Waldini: You have the ACC Preseason Player of the year (Matt Ryan) vs the 2006 ACC Rushing Leader (Tashard Choice). Choice has a huge chip on his shoulder (he didnt like being on 2nd team last year) and they're playing in Atlanta. I'm going w/G. Tech, I just think they are going to do some things in the ACC this year.

Da Realist: I like that Georgia Tech defense. I'm not sure how good Boston College really is but I know they are historically big but slow. i think Matt Ryan will find his ass on the ground more and more often as the game wears on. GT.


ARK vs Bama

Gangsta D: All I know about Bama is that Gil's cousin plays for them, and he's pretty fast. All I know about Arkansas is that McFadden and Jones are REALLY fast. The Hogs have zero passing game, but with those two, do you really need one? The Tide hasn't faced a running combo like McFadden-Jones so I have no idea if they're up for the challenge. Even though Saban may have something up his sleeve, the Hogs pull it out.

Waldini: Saban's a genius, a revolutionary, an offensive wunderkind, a relentless recruiter, and a quitter :-). You said it Gangsta Fadden and Jones is a lethal 1-2 punch (only WVA's Slaton and Devine, and Clemson's Spiller and Davis come close to matching that power & speed). And it's in Fayetteville. Arkansas goes ape shit on Sat.

Da Realist: As great as Arkansas's running game is, you can't bring a one-dimensional offense on the road and expect to win. The Hogs are relying on Casey Dick to make some big plays on the road in Nick Saban's home opener (because you know the tide will stack the line). i hope i'm wrong, but... ALABAMA


UT vs UF

Gangsta D: It's hard for me to keep the bile from overtaking my mouth. There's a pain in my stomach that's gotta be worst than contractions. I'm actually going to pick the Floriduh Gaytors. Blechh! I'm gonna go wash my mouth out now.

Waldini: Do I even need to explain why Tenn is my pick?

Da Realist: Another prediction of which i hope i'm wrong, but Tennessee doesn't look that good. I fell asleep watching last week. Where is the explosiveness? Where is the athletic offensive line phil is known for? Love em or HATE em, Florida has athletes. Lots of them. I hope UT can somehow knock UF on its butt at the swamp, but i can't pick em. UF
