Now she's the victim and in one swoop, he just validated every negative thing she's ever said about him. now she can say whatever she wants about him and everyone will believe her because she's the sweet innocent honest abused (wife, girlfriend, sister, etc)
He should have recognized her a long time ago. the manipulative types can't thrive without attention. curse them and they are empowered. yell at them and they are validated. hit them and they are victimized. but IGNORE them and they are irrelevant.

Belgian Waffles Is Mighty Fine

justine henin-hardenne. no one ever talks about her, but she has 4 slams and is playing in the semifinals of the french. she already has more grand slams than lindsay davenport and as many as jennifer capriati. if she wins this year's french she will have tied venus and martina hingis and will be just one short of serena.
yet no one talks about her at all.

She's Belgian. Most people don't even know where the Hell Belgium is. What's the last great thing to come out of Belgium? Hercule Poiroit? Plus she's not sexy. Maria Sharapova's won, what, two tournaments in the past three years? One major. People actually think she's the best female tennis player. Justine needs a makeover and renounce her Belgian citizenship.

(who by the way, is even more sexy now than then. i saw her in the stands watching a match recently) besides her and anna k, none of them have been that cute to me. justine's about as cute as all the other "dolls". she's blonde, petite and she speaks french. and she wins. and she has the best backhand of all the women. what more can they want?

i've been enjoying this once-every-other-day game schedule for all these nba series, i don't know what to do with all this downtime at night. the first game isn't until thursday...
but i DO know what to do with the days...the french open is on and it's grabbing my attention all day. look for a rematch of last year's final with nadal and federer. you can't ask for a better matchup. federer has won 3 straight majors and gunning for a fourth but is the UNDERDOG against nadal, who has won 50+ straight matches on clay including 3 straight against federer. nadal is the only person to beat federer this year.

NBA FInals - I was saddened that Sat was the last TNT telecast for the year. Instead of Ernie, Kenny, and Chuck we get Dan, Mark, and Mike. Big

French Open - Well clay is Nadal's speciality but I am pulling for Rog. I like to view legends in the making PLUS he's a class guy. Isnt it crazy that Venus is the only American left. Damn JB you couldnt pull it out. I guess I can forgive him since he had played 4 straight days.

Has Nowitzky finally made the leap? If the Mavs make it to the finals, is he a bona fide superstar or do they have to win it all?

dude, you don't know how strange this is to me. if dallas wins it all, dirk will probably be the finals mvp. dirk. think about that for a second. think about all the finals mvp's and imagine where the german flopper would rank. ok, maybe that was too negative. but think about it, if he pulls this off, he would have done something that neither kobe bryant, tracy mcgrady, jason kidd, kevin garnett, or allen iverson has done -- lead his team to the title and win the finals mvp trophy along with it.

True, but Dirk has been coming up big. He's been scoring AND rebounding. If he continues playing out of his mind and they win, he'll deserve it. It'll seem crazy, but at least Finals MVP usually go to worthy performers unlike Super Bowl MVPs. Dexter Jackson and Larry Brown, anyone:)

totally agree with this. nolan has 3 final fours, 2 title games and 1 championship under his belt. to understand how impressive that is, you must understand that fayetteville is a small town tucked deep in the hillbilly mountains of northwest arkansas with its population over 95% white. he took over for eddie sutton and made the team BETTER. the best players he ever had was corliss williamson, todd day and oliver miller, yet he sustained a level of excellence from the late 80's until i graduated from morehouse. he even beat a grant hill-led duke team in the finals in '94.
anyone else with those credentials would have a statue of himself outside of the arena, but we all knew nolan wasn't appreciated even when he was winning. put it this way... if nolan was a white man, he'd be roy williams...except roy had to go to carolina to win his title. if he was a white man, he'd be charging speaking fees to address corporations about
"motivational strategy", instead he's coaching in the backwoods of south america for some FIBA tournament no one cares about.
and i hate to say this about the new coach, but arkansas only hired him to make it look good about firing nolan richardson. and how IS that working out by the way? now, no one even cares about the hogs. when i was growing up, there were two things that made us arkansans proud -- bill clinton and the arkansas razorbacks.

Where's Dr. Detroit?

did last night prove miami is a threat or just an anomaly? i think detroit's a better team but they seem to think they can just turn it on and turn it off like a faucet. they gave that game away last night. wade was in foul trouble all night, shaq didn't dominate and udonis haslem scored 0 points.

-'Sheed guarantees a victory in Game 4, then goes on to say the Pistons will win this series. Think the Pistons will back it up 2nite? I actually like him calling out the Cavs and his subtle way of saying that team is not on his team's level.
- Suns and Clips are going 6. Sam I am went retro last with a near triple double. I didnt see the game so I dont know if he did that dance I like.
- As Realist has said numerous times in the past, I'm on the 'wagon with him after watching this game. The Nets are soft. This is not a great Heat team but they are about to close this series in a few days. Horrible showing and more disappointing series.
- Remember before the season magazines were saying the Spurs could win 70 games with "all that firepower" And after last season's Finals win, they were saying they were a dynasty in the making with all those young stars. Did I rub my eyes right??? Did the Clippers win their series last night?? Wow....Do you realize that they have not won a series since the year we were all born.

yeah, the clippers looked good in finally winning their first playoff series in 30 years. but they won't be taken seriously unless they beat big brother showtime next series. i have a feeling they know that, which should make it interesting. the clippers have looked good and they are playing pretty good defense but it's hard for me to ever bet against phil jackson unless the team he is facing is extraordinarily more talented than his own. if the two teams are relatively even, as these two teams are, then i will go with phil every time.
forget how bad the heat have looked because we all knew they were overrated. WHAT ABOUT THE SPURS? are they getting punked by SACRAMENTO??? they are letting bonzi wells (who, by the way, is only playing like this because he wants a new contract) to look like moses malone in his prime. mike finley is ok, but your boy nick van exel needs to just hang it up. "nick the quick" had his run, but once "nick" lost "the quick" , it was time for him to go.
tonight is the best night so far in the playoffs. lebron vs gilbert tied at 2-2. san antone tied with the kings at 2-2. and we'll see if the young lakers can close out a team on the road. should be somewhat interesting.

Or is it just another case of the NBA being so watered down that the Bulls are within spitting distance of winning this series...

i'm both, a jordan fan and a bulls fan. the bulls were 41-41. i saw quite a few of their games and there wasn't much to talk about. i'm not about to justify whether i'm a bulls fan or not, mostly because i don't have to. if the lakers star player was luke walton and they were coached by jeff hornacek, went 41-41 in a watered down conference and happened to be tied 2-2 against an overrated, defenseless #2 seed in the first round, i think you two would be doing the same thing i'm doing -- silently rooting them on.
don't worry though, i get calls every other night from fam in chicago that want to talk about the bulls and they feel about the same. we're happy for their success, but we still need some major changes to be considered a real threat for the championship. and to be honest, even though it's been 8 years, it's still hard to go from one of the most impressive championship streaks in history with one of the best teams in history (best player, best coach, 2 hall of famers, and one of the best defenses) to being excited about a .500 team tied 2-2 in the first round. we're happy, just...still a little hungover. we all (at least me and my fam) still got all the tapes and recordings and still watch them regularly so that makes it harder to let go of that glorious period. it's like going from dating jessica alba to courting brandy.
the lakers on the other hand, go from magic/worthy/kareem to nick/eddie/shaq to shaq/kobe to kobe. that's like going from jessica alba to salma hayek to halle berry to beyonce. you guys always have a superstar talent to anchor your team even in the lean years. even though the lakers are average, beyonce had an 81 point game and a 62 point game and numerous other similar scoring outbursts. so what if beyonce only has a 2.0 gpa at spelman, she's beyonce @*#&ing knowles!

Like I said, we're just different. I get emotionally involved no matter who's on the squad. That's just me. When Gary Hogeboom was the Cowboys QB, I really thought we had a chance to beat the Bears and was emotionally crushed when we were physically crushed.

All We Have Is Hope

looks like some good news for us...
chicago/miami -- the bulls have a shot. the heat played as well as you can expect and we still had a 4 point lead on the road late in the 4th quarter. i'm not picking them, but they DO have a shot. if i had to pick right now i'd still pick the heat, but that team is garbage and they may not even make it to the conference finals.
la lakers/phoenix -- i really don't see how phoenix wins this series. whenever their running game is slowed, they can't score at all. they are loaded with athletes, but few players.
sacramento/san antonio -- the spurs came out looking like world-beaters. have they been playing possum?
memphis/dallas -- i still don't believe in dallas but they certainly put the smackdown on memphis last night.
Indiana/new jersey -- the sooner the nets realizes vince carter is NOT a big game playoff performer day in and day out the better. he'll come up with a big game offensively this series, but he won't decide this series. but they're going against an indiana team that really doesn't have that kind of player either.
milwaukee/detroit -- the pistons did as expected.
washington/cleveland -- lebron looked good on saturday. let's see if he can continue.
la clippers/denver -- i didn't see the clippers/nuggets the other night so i don't have a comment on them right now. could we actually see a battle for LA in the second round?

I'm pretty confident. We missed about TEN shot within 3 feet of the rim. The game plan was perfect. Pound the ball inside with Kwame, Lamar, and even Walton!!! I knew Luke would eventually prove himself to be the GREATEST 2ND ROUND PICK EVERRRRRRRR. I think we can win.
I don't know if the Bulls can win, but they can take it to 7 games definitely. If they keep running and Hinrich and Gordon stay hot at the same time they will work the Heat.
Sac was trendy to take the Spurs to 7 games. Umm, don't think so. BUT, I have seen the Spurs put the smack down in the first two home games, and then lose four straight. Depends on whether people will ever realize that if you knock Parker down early, he WON'T drive the rest of the game.
If the Nets don't get Jefferson more involved, this series is over before 6. The thing is will O'Neal play big the rest of the series? He was punishing them in the 4th qtr. Can he take the step to the next level?
The only drama in Detroit/Bucks is how many T's Sheed is gonna get. 1 game/1 tech so far. That's a one every one game average:)
Arenas isn't gonna go 12-33, or whatever it was on saturday, too many more times. Cleveland's D isn't that good. I still think that's going 7.

Overall, the first weekend of playoff bball was a pretty good one. The majority of the games were pretty good from the highlights I saw over the wknd (was in a wedding this wknd and missed every game but Bulls-Heat, Lakers-Suns)
- Lakers-Suns - Where do I begin? Man, the Lakers do the exact same thing on Wed, they win that game. Sans the first quarter, they held that offense in check
- Bulls-Heat - Realist, I'm actually pulling for the Baby Bulls. They need more out of Hinrich as he's better than how he played on Sat night. I agree, I think the Heat are overrated
- Spurs-Kings - D, I feel you but the Kings aint the 2004 Lakers. They'll bounce back but they aint winning the series
- Nets-Pacers - How do you let Anthony Johnson beat you?? J-Kidd's gotta get at least 10 pts a game for the Nets to win this series (He had 5 on on Sun)
- Pistons-Bucks - This isn't even a fair series. The Bucks have no shot at winning. Like the Jigga reference for 'Sheed :-)
- Cavs-Wiz - Bron put on a show but most of the Wiz stars (Arenas, Jamison) had a down game. Don't think that happens in Game 2
- Mavs-Grizzlies - The Grizz should finally win a playoff GAME but they aint winning this series
- Clips-Nuggets - I am going to watch Game 2 2nite b/c both these teams play entertaining styles of basketball.

- Lakers-Suns - Where do I begin? Man, the Lakers do the exact same thing on Wed, they win that game. Sans the first quarter, they held that offense in check
- Bulls-Heat - Realist, I'm actually pulling for the Baby Bulls. They need more out of Hinrich as he's better than how he played on Sat night. I agree, I think the Heat are overrated
- Spurs-Kings - D, I feel you but the Kings aint the 2004 Lakers. They'll bounce back but they aint winning the series
- Nets-Pacers - How do you let Anthony Johnson beat you?? J-Kidd's gotta get at least 10 pts a game for the Nets to win this series (He had 5 on on Sun)
- Pistons-Bucks - This isn't even a fair series. The Bucks have no shot at winning. Like the Jigga reference for 'Sheed :-)
- Cavs-Wiz - Bron put on a show but most of the Wiz stars (Arenas, Jamison) had a down game. Don't think that happens in Game 2
- Mavs-Grizzlies - The Grizz should finally win a playoff GAME but they aint winning this series
- Clips-Nuggets - I am going to watch Game 2 2nite b/c both these teams play entertaining styles of basketball.

Like I said B4, the best rivalry the league had was Shaq-Kobe, now they at least acknowledge one another. I miss the regular season days on Sunday when you had a big rivalry game on, like the Knicks-Bulls. Even though it was regular season, it felt like the playoffs cuz you knew both teams were gonna bring it.
I was watching part of the Cavs-Heat earlier and no such aura around the game. I read a few mins ago that Bron Bron dropped 47. But what does it matter if he's gonna hug and kiss D Wade after the game. I want more non peace dammit :-).

Man, it doesnt even feel right that we have gone almost 5 days without dropping something about sports??
- What no comments on Kirby Puckett dying this week? Pretty tragic to me considering how his life started ! going downhill after he was hit by the fastball. I dont watch baseball but suprisingly i watched all of the Twins-Braves WS back in '91, mainly cuz of him and Terry Pendleton. Weird
- No comments on the pending book about Bonds and steroids?
- No comments on the Clippers coming on strong in the 2nd half of the NBA season? And also solidifying their claim as the best pro NBA team in LA this year? (No realist this is not a misprint from a Lakers fan :-)
- No comments on Vargas-Mosely?
- No comments on the World Series of Base - er what I am saying, who cares about that?
- No comments on early March Madness predictions?

what's this about the clippers and lakers? didn't i tell y'all it's 1990 again? last night mike dropped 47 on the pistons to pull within 2 games to 1. game 4 is tomorrow night.

Just heard on the radio that Andrei Kirilenko's wife is "allowing" him to have one night a year with another woman. She feels prohibition fosters temptation, so she's giving him a mulligan in a matter of speaking. I'd love to hear the married man's perspective:)

Realist, I remember when you brought this up and ironically NBA Coast to Coast discussed this 2nite. Whatever happened to the great NBA rivalries. Coast to Coast went through the following rivalries 2nite
Wilt's Sixers vs Bill's Celtics
Julius' Sixers vs Larry's Celtics
Magic's Lakers vs Larry's Celtics
Isaiah's Pistons vs Michael's Bulls
Patrick's Knicks vs Michael's Bulls
Patrick's Knicks vs Reggie's Pacers
Patrick's Knicks vs Alonzo's Heat
After that, they ask, What has happened to the rivalries? And the only one I could think of that was as heated as the one above was the Kings-Lakers and I'm reachin on that one. Man...it was all a dream

payton/kemp's sonics vs stockton/malone's jazz
they were all interesting to watch. i don't know why rivalries no longer exist because the decline of the quality of play doesn't matter if every team is basically on the same playing field.
my guess would be this: i don't think the players care as much about winning as they did back then. i like how you assigned each team to its marquee player because that's where it ultimately starts. those guys had enough pride to make them compete every year against that team they
couldn't get past. marquee players today just don't care. tracy mcgrady, vince carter, dirk nowitzki, ray allen, etc just don't care enough to compete extra hard against that team they couldn't beat the year before. kobe and iverson are probably the only real superstar
competitors out there. can't have rivalries without willing competitors.

Someone made the point that NBA players are too nice nowadays. They share agents, hang out during the regular season, etc. There's just no sustained animosity any more. You'd think that after Rasheed "Clubber Langed" Big Z, that that might inspire something in the Cavs. Not even
close. I think the clamp down on fighting and not being able to leave the bench has a lot to do with it. Look at the 80's and early 90's rivalries. they were always getting into it. that inspired passion and animosity. Just don't have it nowadays.

yep. the nba is so prosperous that everyone has a huge piece of the pie. what's there to be mad about when you're a multi-millionaire? in the 90's, at least some of the endorsements available were given to players that had experienced some success. michael was the only one with his own shoe deal, for instance (other players like magic, larry and dominique endorsed shoes). now EVERYBODY got their own shoe. c'mon, remember the spreewell's with the spinning rims? c'mon...
oh by the way, y'all know i'm LOVING that new jordan commercial!

I'm not saying I want the NBA to turn into WWE and cats are fighting every night but if you get elbowed in the face (see Zydrunas) and get a home game the next night against the same man (see Sheed) who did it to you, you gotta give a lil payback
But more than likely, those cats prbly ended up at the club 2gether that night talking about life. I mean I miss times like when the Rockets came back from a 2-0 and 3-1 defiicit to beat the Suns. I remember AC Green saying when it was 3-1, the series was over and no way the Rockets come back. Well they did and Kenny Smith was like "AC may be religious but he
aint a prophet." Subtle but hilarious....
The sad part is the NBA was hurt from a marketing standpoint when Shaq and Kobe squashed their feud in Jan

y'all remember (and i know you do) back in 93, the lakers had the suns down 2-0 going home for games 3 and 4? a #1 seed losing 2-0 to a #8 seed? game 5 went to overtime before the suns pulled it out. classic, although i was hoping the lakers pulled off history. this was the year before motumbo's nuggets beat the sonics.
